Tuesday, August 7th, VCIA Conference Spouse / Guest Trip to Montpelier
Spouses and guests of VCIA attendees are invited to join in on a tour to Montpelier, Vermont - the State's capital city, and the smallest capital city in America! Montpelier is located centrally in the state and is approximately 40 minutes from Burlington, Vermont. Your guide for the day is Greg Doremus of Vermont Guided Tours. Here is an itinerary of the day:
10:00 am – Depart the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel and Conference Center.
11:00 am –
Vermont State Capitol Building tour. Our group will have a tour of the historic and beautiful Vermont State Capital Building. This building was completed and occupied in 1859 and is one of the nation’s oldest and best preserved capitol buildings. Most state capitols built in this time were designed to resemble our nation's capitol building in Washington, DC. The tour will take us through the principal chambers and give us some interesting history of Vermont's capitol building and city.
12:00 – Vermont History Museum. This is a self-guided tour through the history museum. There are exhibits and rotating galleries that depict early years in Vermont and life in northern New England. http://vermonthistory.org/
1:00 pm – Group Lunch. We plan to eat at the "Down Home Kitchen" in downtown Montpelier. The Down Home Kitchen does not take reservations, but we hope to get seated together without much of a wait. There are several other nice lunch spots if any guests prefer to dine elsewhere to maximize their shopping time. Lunch will be followed by 45 minutes to an hour of "on your own" time in the capital city. There are a number of shops, boutiques and other highlights. http://www.downhomekitchenvt.com/
3:00 pm – Bragg Farm. A local favorite in the Montpelier area, Bragg Farm has many Vermont products and food items. And, always a favorite on the VCIA Spouse/Guest tour - - maple cremees! Sit outside, enjoy the mountain views and farm land in front of you with a delicious treat! http://www.braggfarm.com/
4:45 pm – Arrive back at the Doubletree Hotel.
The tour fee is $75.00 per person which includes the tour, admission to the museum and transportation. Lunch is purchased separately. Please pay the $75 fee by cash or check the day of the tour, directly to Greg Doremus.
