A follow up Member Think Tank to last year's, "The Age of AI and its Upshot for the Insurance Industry," this program will focus on the explosive advancements of the technology in just 12 months.
Join fellow members for a one-hour virtual Think Tank exploring how captive professionals are putting AI to work. Sumit Bagla, chief technology officer at Capitawise, and Heather McClure, managing partner and general counsel at Helio Risk, will share their perspectives from both sides of the work: building the technology that supports captives and managing captives day to day. This isn’t a product pitch. It’s a practical look at the AI tools our speakers use day to day, illustrated through a few real case studies, with a candid discussion of what’s working, what isn’t, and what to watch out for.
VCIA Members are encouraged to bring their AI questions and share their experiences using the various platforms. Nothing's off limits, as artificial intelligence has firmly established itself as the most pressing issue of contemporary society.

Speakers
Managing Partner and General Counsel Heather McClure has managed client risk inside law firms and organizations, overseeing risk financing, risk management, commercial and insurance and reinsurance procurement, captive operations, and claims and litigation. Prior to joining Helio, McClure was Chief Risk Advisor for the national healthcare practice at Aon. She had previously been the Chief Risk Officer at the University of Oklahoma’s health system, directing risk, claims, captive operations, and insurance structure, including property, cyber, directors and officers, employer liability, workers compensation, provider professional liability, hospital liability, aviation, auto, and all other commercial and captive lines. Heather also served as Chief Legal Officer of the system’s captive insurance company, saving the system millions over its years of highly successful operations.
As the CTO at Capitawise, Sumit shapes the technology, AI, and platform strategy to deliver real commercial growth and business outcomes. With over 25 years experience in navigating regulated spaces like banking and insurance, he loves bringing that deep expertise into the startup world. Sumit's focus is on ensuring technology serves as a direct enabler for business value rather than an end in itself. Sumit specializes in connecting long-term vision with fast-paced delivery, and building culture that delivers scalable products and meaningful business outcomes.
