I had the opportunity to return to one of my favorite American cities this week for the annual RIMS/Riskworld conference in Chicago. Huge congratulations and gratitude to VCIA member and President of RIMS, Kristen Peed, and her team for putting on an incredible show that brought together the country’s largest group of insurance and risk management professionals to McCormick Place.
As always, Brittany Nevins curated a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Vermont delegation to exhibit at the State of Vermont booth, including Sandy Bigglestone and some of her DFR team, several service provider representatives, and my VCIA colleague Francis McGill and me. We made numerous connections with current and prospective members, had face-to-face conversations with several exhibitors and sponsors for our August conference, and made several new acquaintances throughout the three days.
A highlight for me was VCIA’s first member-only reception during RIMS held at rooftop bar Seville, on Monday night. Even with so many other events happening simultaneously, nearly 60 members made time for food, drinks and great conversation with fellow VCIA folks. The bonus? The sun came out and the wind died down and we had a truly fabulous time amongst friends.
I made my way down to Lake Michigan for a split second before the rain started on Sunday but at least I can say I saw it from the other side (I’m used to seeing it from the Michigan side). I ate deep pizza, caught a Cubs game (they lost in extra innings!), and hit some fun night spots. A truly memorable RIMS experience!
