Raise your hand if the word andragogy is familiar to you. No? If so, you are not alone. Andragogy, “the art and science of teaching adults,” is the study of adult learning. As a newcomer to the world of captives, I’m excited to meet with you, learn from you, dive into the content of this industry, and use my knowledge and experiences with andragogy to provide engaging, world-class captive insurance education and professional development.
Education represents one of my highest values. Whether teaching, mentoring, recruiting and onboarding students as a lecturer and graduate program director for Baylor University’s Museum Studies Program or developing and delivering a full season of programming and professional development for adult audiences, I prioritize people, learning, and community in my work. During my time at the Smithsonian, I produced programs for all ages and received two awards for my work—a Smithsonian Special Act Award and a Smithsonian PRIDE (Personal Recognition for Ingenuity, Drive, and Excellence) Award.
VCIA already offers an incredible annual conference, webinars, road shows, and legislative events. I intend to build on this solid foundation. As a native Vermonter who went out into the world and returned to be closer to family, I’m delighted to be working in a capacity where my talents can be applied locally, nationally, and globally to benefit you, your colleagues, and the industry at large.
Be sure to introduce yourself to me at the upcoming Spring Member Mixer, the 2025 VCIA Annual Conference, or any future VCIA program and share ideas of what learning opportunities you would like to see. I look forward to meeting you!
